The Firm

Our one rule

We keep one rule, and it does a lot of work. It's the first question we ask of anything that comes our way, and it ends most conversations before they start — which is how it should be.

01

The rule

We only take on work where, if it succeeds, the world is plausibly better off for it. It's a simple test, applied honestly, and we'd rather turn down good money than break it.

02

What we take on

Work that's worth doing, that we can actually help with, and where we can be honest about what we don't know.

03

What we decline

We say no a lot.

  • Work that can't show how anyone is better off if it succeeds.
  • Work that depends on the harm being someone else's problem.
  • Work that needs us to pretend to a certainty we don't have.
